It started off as a draft for a project from a Peranakan restaurant. In the process of drawing the kueh. I was fascinated by the plethora of kueh from the various cuisines around Southeast Asia such regional Chinese, Malay, Indonesian or Peranakan cuisines. Thus, the project didn't proceed in the end as I don't feel this ubiquitous snack or sweet around Southeast Asia is solely a Nonya food item as the brief. Kueh like Huat Kueh and Kueh Bulan could be found in Chinese cuisine and Kueh Salat and Ondeh Ondeh are found in Malay cuisine as well, this overlapping of cuisines, demonstrates the rich diversity in Southeast Asia.

I continued with the project and each piece led to the discovery of kueh I never knew.

Kueh has many names. I have chosen to use "kueh" instead of kuih, kway or kue. When enjoying. There are many forms of spelling for each of the kueh from Baba Malay, Malay ,Indonesian to Chinese. I have included some of the alternative names and used their common names as well for the 3 pieces.
